Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football with social service. The first family is his youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon raised on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. On the football field, he competed with his three brothers from Oklahoma. The three brothers were all All-Americans. In 1973, Lucious Jr. Dewey and Lee Roy were starters. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's finest lineman. During his three seasons as Oklahoma's main linebacker, the Sooners went 31-1-1 and claimed two championships. The third scholarship was awarded to him. He was as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering during college. After graduation, he relocated to Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers and was an all-pro 3 times, before beginning a new business career. In 1988, he was working as an Account Relation Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He was employed with the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and for the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. There's no doubt that it was a surprise to hear that he was voted one of the top 10 young men across the United States from the Junior Chamber of Commerce in 1982. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs 256 pounds. He was captain of his university team in the year 1975. In 1993 he joined as a director at University of South Florida as the associate director of athletics. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. In 1989 The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded its Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Senior. The presentation was made by Henry Bellmon govenor of Oklahoma.
